Remodeling can be a lot of fun. There are new appliances and furniture choices, paint samples, and plenty of options for new flooring. When you remodel a kitchen, you have to think about the function of the room as well as what you want in the way of décor. If you are putting up new cupboards and doors, you want things that make sense with your lifestyle. You may not think much about your choice in kitchen door, but that is actually one consideration that you should put a lot of thought into before you make your final decision.

Though a full size kitchen door is something you find on most kitchens that are closed off, this is not always the best choice for a kitchen. If you rarely cook and do not spend a lot of time there, the door you walk through to get in and out of your kitchen is not going to be of much consideration. If you live alone, you may not have to give it much thought either. However, for everyone else, the traditional full length, turn-knob, kitchen door may not be the best and most convenient answer.

Instead of that type of kitchen door, think about getting something you can open without using your hands. If you move in and out of your kitchen to a dining room, but you do not have an open space without a door, you want something you can open without your hands. There are swinging doors that stay in place when you are not going through them, but that swing when you put pressure on them with your shoulder or hip. This makes walking in and out of your kitchen with your hands full so much easier.

This type of kitchen door comes in many sizes. You can get what appear to be French style doors that go all the way to the floor but do not have knobs. You can also find doors that are just a few feet high that can be put up shoulder high so that you can easily bump them open. They give the feeling of a kitchen door without completely closing off the space of your kitchen from the rest of your home. There are even more varieties out there if you go to your local home improvement store to look at your options.

If you have a kitchen door, but think perhaps you would rather have an opening between your kitchen and dining room, you can remove the one you have and open the space up a bit. You have to find out if you have any beams in the wall that are load bearing, as you can not move these, but otherwise, you can open the wall up a bit and perhaps have an arch put in where your kitchen door use to be. You may even be able to completely move where your door or open arch would be when you remodel, but again, make sure it is safe to do so before you start cutting into the wall.
