Bake and toast with toaster ovens
Toaster ovens are handy substitutes to full-size ovens. A cross between a big toaster and a miniature oven, they can be used to toast breads and waffles as well as to bake food. Of course, the baking abilities depend upon the wattage and capacity, and are indirectly related to the quality and price of the toaster oven.
Unlike normal ovens, a toaster oven is small and does not take much kitchen space. Its working is simple, and all that you are requited to do is: set the controls as per your requirements, open the door, place the food to be toasted or baked on the shelf inside the toaster oven and close the door.
If the food on the shelf has been set for toasting, the toaster thermostat gets activated. This, in turn, activates the in-built heating elements present at the top and base of the device. There is a controller also present within.
If the food on the shelf has been set for baking, the baking thermostat gets activated. It activates the heating elements, again regulated by the controller. The baking process has an added controller — a timing mechanism to control baking time.
A toaster oven, like all other kitchen appliances, has its share of mechanical problems. The most common problem is the burning out of the electrical cord. In this case, you will need to replace the cord. Sometimes the thermostat may be faulty or may suffer from minor errors; in this case, you need to recalibrate the thermostat.
The other major parts of a toaster oven are the main switch, the thermal fuse and the solenoid, all of which run the possibility of becoming faulty over time. However, like other kitchen appliances, the toaster oven too comes with a warranty, and functions well over long periods of time.
