When you begin your journey into organic gardening, you may have difficulty finding the supplies you need. It doesn’t have to be a difficult process; you simply have to know where to look to find high quality organic gardening supplies, such as seeds, seedling plants, compost, and more. If you purchase the incorrect supplies, you can contaminate your organic garden, so it’s important to spend a little bit of extra time and money to find the correct products.

One excellent source of organic gardening supplies is other organic gardeners. For example, if you plan to grow heirloom organic tomatoes, but are unsure what types of tomatoes you like, or what various varieties of plants end up tasting like, you might have good luck asking someone in your area who already knows a bit about the plants. Other gardeners may also be a good source for local compost, worms for vermicomposting, or tips on companion planting in your area. They can give you the best possible advice for how to grow things properly in your particular climate, how to deal with the local pests without pesticides, and other useful gardening tips.

Another good place to purchase organic gardening supplies may be your local farm market. Visit stalls and ask questions of the farmers there. Purchase organic seedlings; farmers markets are especially good for finding rare varieties of flowers, herbs, and vegetables that have been started from seed. Starting your garden with established seedlings is far easier for the beginner gardener than trying to start plants from seed, so it may give you a head start and make the gardening process easier for you.

You may have good luck with a chain home and garden store for products such as compost, potting soil, containers, or boards to build raised beds with. Choose products labeled organic, to ensure that you don’t contaminate your garden. In addition, avoid pressure treated or chemically treated wood for building beds or containers for your garden. These chemicals will leach through the soil and into your plants, contaminating the food from your garden.

There are also a variety of online sources for organic gardening supplies. You can take advantage of seasonal shipping for live plants, and quick shipping for other products, so that you can get your garden started quickly. Ordering online helps ensure that you get the exact products that you need, in time to start your seeds and seedlings. Gardening can be a time sensitive, weather sensitive pastime, so check the shipping policy of any website you purchase from carefully, so you know you’ll get your gardening materials well before you need to use them.

You know what grout haze is, don’t you? It’s the thin layer (or if you’ve had the pleasure of having very careless workers, then maybe a not-so-thin a layer) of cement that you see defacing your tiles after a fresh tile job has just been completed. Careless workers will often just forget to wipe their work area properly after they’ve done some cement-based grouting, the stuff just stays there and hardens. Once it hardens, it can be pretty hard to remove, and it can be quite unsightly. Not to mention, it can be rough on your feet. That’s where grout haze remover comes in.

The trick to the effective use of grout haze remover comes down to applying it as soon as you notice any haze on there. The less time you give the cement to settle in, the easier your job will be.

The best thing would be to not let too much time pass after a grouting job has been done. Give it three hours tops, and the grouting that’s actually in the joints won’t be damaged when you apply grout haze remover. Don’t try to give it any more time. Most tiles these days have matte finishes. That kind of surface gives the cement a lot of grip. Don’t come back the next day for this – do it in three hours.

You don’t want to set on your grout with too much force. If it’s no older than three hours, it can often just come off quite easily. You only want to turn on the pressure when you find that a reasonable amount of scrubbing doesn’t remove it. Do it conservatively to make sure that you don’t damage any of the grouting.

All you need to do is to grab a soft cheesecloth, and simply wipe the excess cement off your tiles. Whatever comes off, comes off. Whatever doesn’t, you will need to try out a wet cheesecloth on. Properly scrub the floor with a wet cheesecloth, and see how much you can work out of the floor.

Make sure that your wet cloth isn’t dripping wet. You don’t want to damage the grouting that’s actually in the grooves, trying to set.

When there is still haze on your tiles that won’t come off, that’s when you use grout haze remover. You need this acidic substance and you need a strong scrubber.

Acidic grout haze remover will work for as long as you don’t have natural stone tile. If your tiles are natural stone, the acid will damage it. Grout haze remover for stone – products like Aqua-Mix – will work just fine. These aren’t very powerful.

If you’re dealing with ceramic or porcelain – material that’s quite acid resistant, you can happily use Restore from StoneTech. All you need to do is to moisten a pad in the substance and then apply on the affected areas. You will hear a sharp biting fizz as it gets to work.

For the longest time, tile grouting, the stuff you use to fill the spaces between tiles with, was just white cement. It was white cement that was colored to match the tile it was used to finish. Applying it consisted of just smearing the stuff between tiles, and it was ugly. These days though, manufacturers and designers have come up with all kinds of new substances. There are new types of grout now that are nothing like the cement we’re used to. These new substances are easier to apply, easier to maintain, and they last longer. Let’s take a look.

To think of the types of grout we are used it – sanded and unsanded cement-based grouting. That’s right, we are used two kinds – cement that’s used by itself and cement that’s mixed with sand for added strength. You could choose between coarse and crumbly pure cement, or very rough sanded grouting if you wanted to strength. Unfortunately, even today, this is the most popular kind of grouting use.

If you’re still using these types of grout, there are just two kinds of things you can do to improve things. You can either use extra fine sand for sanded grouting to make things a bit smoother, or you can use a proper grouting sealer to form a barrier over the roughness of the grouting. If you don’t do this, you’ll spend a couple of hours every month scrubbing your grouting clean and hating yourself for it.

Okay, out with the old and in with the new – new types of grout that are epoxy based and premixed urethane.

Epoxy is a very hard synthetic substance, and it’s completely nonporous. It’s durable, it goes on more evenly than cement, and you get it in just about any color you want.

Just as with cement based grout though, epoxy grout does need a certain amount of expertise for a proper, well-finished appearance. When a worker does a careless the job with cement-based grouting and gets some of the stuff over your tiles, the resultant grouting haze is easy to get rid of. You just use a hazing cleaner and it will dissolve the cement very easily.

If a worker does a shoddy job with epoxy resin, well, you might as well call the contractor in to put down new titles. Epoxy is the hardest substance known. It’s going to be impossible to remove.

Premixed urethane grout, the kind you get very cheaply at large home-improvement stores, is something to avoid. It’s just a crumbly thing that really doesn’t stay on for long. The only thing this kind of thing has going for it is that it’s easy to apply.

Going About Your Grout Cleaning Without Cursing

People love tile. It’s colorful, it’s easy to clean, and it can just feel good have tiles everywhere. There’s just one little problem. This rose comes with its own thorn – they call it the tile joint. Really, there’s no perfect solution for what to do to those tile joints. You have to fill them with something, and most people use cement. They could use epoxy, but that needs a lot of skill in aworker, to lay on correctly. One mistake, and you have to gouge your tiles out and start all over again. So we’re back to cement. The only problem here is that cement is a rough substance. And you have to sign yourself up for a lifetime of grout cleaning if you use it.

Luckily, there are some pretty good grout cleaning products on the shelves these days. You don’t have to nearly work as hard as you used to have to have to at one time.

Tile scum and the scum that collects between tiles, is a stubborn substance (don’t you know it). Basically, since tile scum tends to be an acidic thing, you need to attack it with a special kind of cleaner that’s alkaline. When an alkaline cleaner comes into contact with acidic filth, it dissolves it. The acidic and the alkaline get together, they react, and everything dissolves.

There are some a well-known brands that you’ll find at any home improvement store that will help. The KlenzAll alkaline cleaner from StoneTech, that sells for $30 a can, can make short work of tiles in a bathroom. You just need to follow the instructions, and it’s easy enough.

But alkaline cleaner isn’t totally effective on tile. It’s only partially effective. For this, you need to turn to your second round of cleaning – with the acidic cleaner like DuPont’s StoneTech, a product that sells for about $50 a can.

You shouldn’t worry about the the acidic character of this cleaner. It’s specifically designed for this and it’s only mild acid. Before you use an acidic cleaner like this, do make sure that you remember to test it on a hidden part. Some kinds of tile don’t really like acid – stone tile, especially.

When you’re finally ready to put your acid cleaner to work, just follow the instructions and smear the substance all over. You’ll see it bite into all the dirt and the scum. There’ll be fizzing and vapor.

Now a grout cleaning job is never complete without a good round of grouting seal. Really, why would you want to do this all over again? Just buy a quality grout sealer like AquaMix, and you’ll be set.

The Lipper Divided Bamboo Tea Box with Clear Lid is a beautiful way to store and show off your favorite teas and tea accessories. It contains eight separate compartments which can be filled with tea bags, tea leaves or even a tea ball. The natural wood design allows it to blend seamlessly into any room and add visual appeal to your home. Additionally, the compact size of the box means it can be stored just about anywhere, with it measuring just 7.5 inches by 12.5 inches by 3.75 inches.

Product Features:
- 8 compartments with removable dividers which allows you to give each of your favorite teas their own special spot.
- Hinged lid with clear glass panels which allows you to see the teas at all times and provides you with easy access to them.
- Solid bamboo construction which is built to last.
- Warm, neutral colored finish which is visually appealing and blends into any room.

Good Points:

1) Large Capacity:- One of the best features of the Lipper Divided Bamboo Tea Box with Clear Lid is its large capacity. Most tea boxes can hold up to six different types of tea but this one can hold up to eight. If you’re a tea lover, the chances are that you’ll have more than six different teas in your cupboard which makes the extra two compartments a really big plus.

2) Stylish:- Another fantastic feature of the Lipper Divided Bamboo Tea Box with Clear Lid is its design. The neutral wood finish is really nice to look at and fits in with almost any interior design. The hinged lid with clear glass panels is also functional and stylish. If you’re looking for something that will blend into your home and keep your tea organized, you won’t be disappointed with the Lipper Divided Bamboo Tea Box with Clear Lid.

3) Glass Panels:- Many tea boxes on the market are 100% wood and don’t have any way to see what’s inside without opening the box. While this might not sound like a big deal, if you live in a house full of tea drinkers, having the glass panels makes it much easier to keep track of which teas are running low and need topping up. Instead of opening the box to check, you simply quickly glance through the glass and update your shopping list accordingly.

Bad Points:

1) Poorly Glued:- One disappointing feature of the Lipper Divided Bamboo Tea Box with Clear Lid is the quality of the gluing. The bamboo wood and clear glass panels are solid enough but the glue is very weak. If you purchase this tea box, you will need to apply more wood glue to firm it up.

Summary:

If you are a big tea drinker, the Lipper Divided Bamboo Tea Box with Clear Lid is a brilliant addition to your home. It’s got plenty of room for all your tea, it’s very stylish and the glass panels are a great way to keep track of which teas are running low. The poor gluing is a bit of a letdown but it can be fixed easily enough. Overall, if you drink tea regularly, the Lipper Divided Bamboo Tea Box with Clear Lid is an excellent way to keep your teas organized and add a bit of style to your home while you do it.

Your wife has been on your case for weeks now to get you to do something about the ugly black stains that are all over your roof, and are finally getting the point. Not only does it look awful, it’s bringing the value of your house down to potential buyers, and you just read that when algae grows on your roof, it doesn’t just grow their – it eats it. So you’re about ready to call in professional roof cleaners. Just one problem though – you’ve never hired professional roof cleaners, and not really sure what you need to look for.

Roof cleaning companies love to use high-pressure water to quickly blast all unwanted growths off your roof. It makes their job easy to do this. But this is always a bad idea. If you are going to hire professionals to do the job, you want to look for people who promise not to use high-pressure water. The only time pressure cleaning is a good idea if that is if you have a heavy green moss blanketing your roof. But even then, they should use this little pressure as possible to get the job done.

Pressure cleaning can play havoc with your roofs waterproofing properties. Never go with such a cleaner.

As far as possible the best roof cleaners will come do the job in teams of two. One person remains up on the roof doing all the cleaning, while the other is at the base of the ladder, helping, handing things up and so on. A team of two always gets the job done better.

Some roof cleaners will try to pull a fast one over you. They will say that if there’s just a portion of your roof that’s covered with algae or whatever else, that they only need to clean the dirty parts. If you find anyone who talks this way, never hire them. They don’t intend to do a good job.

Anyone who’s been in roof cleaning for a short period of time knows that once algae gets on a surface, the spores spread spread all over the place. Just because you don’t see any growth right now, it doesn’t mean that the growth will not start any day. It absolutely will. Only go with a cleaning company that never even brings this up.

And finally, to make sure that you’re going with someone who is reputable, ask friends and neighbors. Do check to see if the roof cleaners are BBB accredited, and make sure you go with someone who has liability insurance.

Have you ever had a professional roof cleaner try to talk up to you how great his services are, by telling you that he does high pressure cleaning on algae or mold or anything else on your roof? A roof pressure cleaning is always a bad idea though. So it’s a wonder that professional cleaners will still try this with potential clients. It’s a wonder that they talk about pressure cleaning in a boastful way as if they thought that it could impress.

The thing is, just because your roof is made of hard, tough materials, doesn’t mean that it’s indestructible. Especially when your roof needs to be in immaculate shape to remain waterproof. Pressure washers produce an unbelievable amount of pressure. How much pressure, you ask?

Let’s try to put this in perspective. Your garden hose is usually able to put out about 75 pounds per square inch or PSI. In comparison, the pressure washer that they use for roof pressure cleaning is 2500 psi. That’s enough to crack shingles with.

What is more, roof pressure cleaning isn’t exactly going to take the algae out. While all the high-pressure water will certainly loosen the stuff that’s attached to your roof, it is not going to wash it all off. While the roof will look great for a few days, the algae can come right back. In some cases, the high-pressure water will wash the algae off. But it’ll also push the spores there deep into any microscopic holes there may be in your roof.

You’re probably asking yourself, if something with less pressure than this might work you – like 1000 PSI. Professional roof cleaners will sometimes use something they call a Pitch witch – a little cart that has several nozzles that deliver pressurized water. The cart rolls all over your roof. But even 1000 PSI is too much. Whatever you do, you don’t want anything that’s more than 1000 PSI.

Basically, a professional roof cleaner needs to come in and use old-fashioned manual labor to clean your roof. He needs to scrub things clean with a gentle spray of water and bleach. Nothing stronger than this will do. Roofs, whether you realize it or not, are delicate things. You don’t want to do anything that could compromise the integrity of the roof. Make a mistake here, and you could be staring at a terrible leaky roof not far down the line.
